These lantern slides were taken by the Rev. William Cran of Westhill Congregational Church. They show the centre of Aberdeen on the occasion of the opening of the massive extension to  Marischal College by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. This was to mark the Quater-Centerary celebrations of the University but a year late. Major buildings in the city were profusely decorated. One slide show a temporary arch erected on the Gallowgate, perhaps so that the royal couple wouldn't see the slums in the Gallowgate.
